U.S.-Pakistan ties undergo "rough year", says U.S. envoy
U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter said on Monday that the U.S.-Pakistan ties have undergone a "rough year" and difficulties of the relations will remain in the future.
"I want to be straightforward about this. This has been a rough year for our time with Pakistan and the difficulties that we've faced, the difficulties in the relationship, are going to continue, " Munter said when he addressed the Asia Society in New York.
Speaking of the soured bilateral relations, Munter cited the tensions following the killing of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and the arrest of a CIA employee who killed two Pakistanis in the city of Lahore.
He revealed that the U.S. will increase the portion of American aid that goes to civilian projects, with a priority on Pakistan's energy supply.
Currently, the Untied States currently gives about two billion dollars of military assistance and 1.5 billion dollars of civilian aid to Pakistan every year.
