Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) countries are engaged in talks in Vanuatu's Port Vila on the formulation of a legal framework that will bind them when it comes to facilitation for extradition requests, Fiji Ministry of Information said in a press release on Friday.
Sila Balawa, deputy secretary at Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is being accompanied by another official Peni Suveinakama to attend the Port Vila workshop.
There has been recent activities happening in Vanuatu, the Solomons, Fiji and Papua New Guinea and this workshop on the formulation of an extradition framework is very much needed, Balawa was quoted as saying.
According to the official, the Port Vila workshop is aiming to address extradition arrangements, reciprocal enforcement of foreign judgments in MSG member countries, and custody and maintenance of children between MSG members.
The purpose of the first workshop is to enable experts to discuss ways to develop a framework for extradition arrangements between MSG member countries.
The workshop was officially opened by MSG Director General Rima Ravusiro on Monday, which was participated by officials from Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Fiji and Vanuatu.
