Philippine gov't calls for stricter security measures inside malls
The Philippine government called on Wednesday for stricter implementation of security measures inside the malls amid the recent shooting incidents in two SM establishments.
Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said that "malls are quasi-public place" where the public usually converges.
"It's privately-owned but the public is always there so we hope that they will be aware of the safety of the public patronizing their malls," he said.
Lacierda said that security personnel should be stricter in frisking the bags and the persons' belongings when entering the malls.
"So we would like to ask mall agencies, mall management to be more firm in enforcing security within their premises," he added.
Two shooting incidents occurred recently in separate SM malls where a teenager and a woman, respectively, managed to bring inside the establishments gun without being detected by the security guards.
