EU-facilitated Serbia-Kosovo talks called off
The Serbia-Kosovo dialogue sponsored by the European Union (EU) has been called off because the Serbian delegation was not ready to participate, an EU official said on Wednesday.
"The dialogue did not take place because the Serbian delegation was not ready to proceed with discussions today," Robert Cooper, the EU facilitator of the dialogue, said.
A day earlier, at least six Kosovo Serbs and four NATO troops were injured in clashes along a disputed section of the Serbia-Kosovo border.
"The situation at the gates in northern Kosovo is not part of the dialogue nor the subject of any separate negotiations with Serbia," Cooper said.
He noted the Serbia-Kosovo dialogue would only focus on energy, telecommunications and Kosovo participation in regional fora. "The parties would also discuss the implementation of previous agreements," Cooper added.
"The dialogue will continue when the Serbian side is ready to reengage," he said, stating the purpose of the process remains to discuss issues that are aimed at improving lives of people and bringing the parties closer to the EU.
