Obama, Merkel discuss Eurozone financial crisis

U.S. President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke by phone on Monday to discuss the ongoing Eurozone sovereign debt crisis and recent developments in financial markets.

The two leaders agreed that "concerted action would be needed in the coming months to address current economic challenges and assure global economic recovery", according to a statement released by the White House.

The discussion was at a moment when global financial markets are highly volatile.

Latest news showed that Greece is on the edge of default, which will damage the prospect of the European common currency.

The U.S., also facing heavy debt challenge, is closely connected with its European partners through financial sections.
