Spanish FM to visit Seoul for talks on bilateral ties, other issues

Spanish Foreign Minister Trinidad Jimenez is set to visit South Korea next week for talks over expanding bilateral ties, the foreign ministry here said Thursdsay.

Jimenez, who is to arrive in Seoul next Wednesday, will meet with his South Korean counterpart Kim Sung-hwan next Thursday to discuss bilateral cooperation on a range of areas including renewable energy, aviation and national defense, according to the ministry.

The two top diplomats are also expected to discuss regional and international issues of mutual concern, such as a free trade agreement between South Korea and the European Union, the G20 talks among the world's largest economies and the financial crisis.

South Korea and Spain established formal diplomatic ties in 1950.
