Fiji is trying to revive the scouts in schools to bring discipline to students.
This is an information revealed at a traditional farewell on Thursday that four senior scouts presented to the Chief Scout and President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau at the Government House before attending the scouts Jamborees in China's Taiwan and Sweden.
According to a release from the Ministry of Information, Adi Cakabau School senior scout Talei Waibuta will attend the Taiwan Jamboree on July 11-18, while Navinesh Prasad of Dilkusha Boys School, Josefa Katoinakodu of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School and Vineet Nadan of Gospel High School will be in Sweden for the World Jamboree.
During the function, President Nailatikau, as the Chief Scout, presented the Fiji National Scouts scarves to the four senior scouts and reminded them to be good ambassadors of Fiji abroad.
"Have a safe journey, enjoy all the activities and upon your return do make sure that you assist in rekindling the senior scout programs in your schools and the presence here today of your principals will help consolidate that message," said Nailatikau.
In late last month, Luc Pannissob, General Secretary of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, arrived in Fiji to look at first hand scouting activities both at administrative level and school level on how Fiji produces the scout association and how the movement is developed and organized in the country in general as well as what can be done to improve it.
The scouts movement in Fiji, grown through the school systems, is being encouraged as boys learn about values of life like caring, loving and being compassionate about people around them.
The mission of scouting is to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law, to help build a better world where people are self- fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society.
